What is acupuncture

Acupuncture is an alternative medicine originating in ancient China more than 3000 years ago. It treats patients  with insertion of thin, solid needles into acupuncture points in the skin. According to Traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these points can correct imbalances in the flow of qi through channels known as meridians. Sometimes, acupuncturists not only use needles but also use a herbal (mugwort  herb) cone known as moxa cone or  cigar-shaped  moxa stick to warm the acupuncture points. This therapy with  more than 1000 years history  is called moxibustion, which is powerful  in nourishment and correction of imbalance. Actually, in Chinese language ,the character 针 means needles, 灸 means moxibustion. The two characters put together will be 针灸 which means acupuncture.
